Artistic Director Honoured by Eisteddfod
NWIMF Artistic Director Ann Atkinson has been given one of the highest honours of the 2009 International Eisteddfod.
Ann, who is a successful opera singer, and also musical director of the Fron Male Voice Choir and the Bro Glyndwr Choir, will join the Gorsedd of Bards at the 2009 Meirion and District Eisteddfod in Bala.
The Gorsedd of Bards is an association whose members consist of poets, writers, musicians, artists and individuals who have made a distinguished contribution to the Welsh nation, language and culture.
For example world famous opera star Bryn Terfel, England cricketer Robert Croft, former Labour Leader in the Lords, Lord Cledwyn of Penrhos, ex-Welsh rugby star Gareth Edwards, and Hollywood stars Ioan Gruffudd and Matthew Rhys.
We don't know where she finds the time! Llongyfarchiadau Ann!
On Her Bike!
Festival Coordinator Katy Morgan has set herself a testing goal in the name of charity, and the love of the job. In a bid to raise funds for the 2009 festival, and to mark what would have been William Mathias’s 75th birthday, Katy has pledged to cycle from the festival office, in St Asaph, to the William Mathias Centre at Galeri, Caernarfon. Katy and her bike have been a familiar sight on the roads around St Asaph, since she joined the ‘Bike to Work’ scheme. “With the exception of the last couple of months, I’ve been cycling to and from work fairly regularly, to keep fit and to do my bit for the environment”, said Katy. “Having had a break because of the dark nights and cold weather, I needed something to motivate me to get back on my bike, and I thought what better way that to raise funds for the festival?”
If you wish to sponsor Katy, you can pledge your support on the website, or can send a cheque to the normal office address.
“I’m hoping to raise £1500 in total; if I’m going to cycle 50 miles, it’s got to be worthwhile! I hope people will join me at the end of the ride for a well-earned cup of tea and a piece of cake!”
